| What are your server types:
NT? UNIX? Both? Other?
- We use Unix. We do not offer virtual hosting
on NT servers.
Does The Web Power support MacIntosh
systems?
- Sure. You can use the Fetch program to
transfer files from your MAC to our system. You can also use Telnet
and the POP e-mail programs like Eudora, Claris E-mail and Netscape
Mail.
Why is Unix better than a Windows/NT server?
- Essentially,
Unix is a more reliable operating system. This is largely due
to the fact that NT is only about 5-6 years old, whereas UNIX
has been around for about 25 years. Now, older is not always better.
In this situation however, the 25 years of refinement has paid
off - UNIX is a smooth running machine.
For example:
compare downtime. UNIX has no scheduled downtime. NT on the
other hand has to be shut down in order to perform certain system
operations, such as installing certain software programs. It
is not uncommon for NT servers to be down for hours at a time.
I don't mean to cut on NT - I'm sure that Microsoft will iron
out the rough spots, but in the meantime it is the user who
pays the price.
Connectivity
OC3 Connectivity
Great support and great features will get you nowhere without a
wide pipe. The servers we offer are connected with multiple OC3
lines, an OC3 is 100 times the size of a T1 and
3.5 times larger than a T3. Additionally every line is supported
by several other redundant connections that each tie right into
the backbone.
